Upcycled Shoe Project

After enjoying a box of Thin Mints I carefully broke down the box and began designing a "Thin Mint Shoe".  I used an old blouse to line the inside of the shoe and add embellishments to the ends of the wire laces.
Using only a Thin Mint box, cardboard, an old blouse, wire, and hot glue, I created a mock up of the perfect Thin Mint Shoe
shoe project lesson with student samples
Students learned from a FIDM Guest Speaker about the highly profitable shoe design industry.  She explained the evolution and purpose of shoes throughout history and introduced them to the "lazy s", necessary in all shoes.  From there, students created mood boards to brainstorm ideas for a shoe of their choice, drew the shoe in 6 different views related to the 6 anatomical views of a foot.  They provided great detail in color, texture, and materials to utilize.  Next, they began building using recycled materials like cardboard, cereal boxes, and old clothes.  Click the button above to view the full lesson as well as student samples.  Some of the samples include the student's websites with written and visual evidence of their work.
